swimming pool heaters The sorry saga of a laars lite swimming pool heater !
The sales blurb reads The Laars Lite 125 is the LX's baby brother. The Lite model does not have all of the advanced features of the LX model but is ideal for the smaller inground pool and still better than any simlilar size heater on the market. Supposed to be top quality & highly reliable, mine isn't !
Worked fine for a while after installation but then started to go out, would suddenly find that pool was cooling down & would go to boiler room & relight it, then one day it refused to relight. Engineer visited & said they had some problems with electrical connections & re crimped ends, lit up & went away, continued to go out occasionally. Once again refused to light at all. This time engineer brought new wiring from manufacturers & fitted that, lit up OK. Fine for a bit then same old problems, & on & on & on ! Finally once again found pool cold & unable to light heater, contacted PoolStore who supplied it & told they would get engineer out again, also told that they have very few problems with Laars heaters & had never called engineer out more than twice to same heater. It's now 30 days (17/05/05)since pool has been heated ! Just been told by PoolStore that they don't sell these heaters any more due to too many problems, thay also say they are struggling to get the engineer to respond. Emailed Laars themselves but get no reply at all! So if you want a nice reliable quality heater you could get a Laars from Pool Store. New developments will follow below: 24/05/2005 Independent engineer turns up & changes gas valve & does tests. Gets boiler to light but can't explain why it wouldn't previously Then decides to suggest that problem could be pump not powerful enough for the system, this is the new pump that was purchased at same time from poolstore after giving pool sizes etc. Using the std flow requirement formula it's specification exceeds that required! Now waiting for a call. 25/05/2005, Poolstore say they are sending a new higher power pump for us to swap over in case other one is faulty. 27/05/2005 Poolstore have sent a new higher output pump as they said they would Now installed & certainly flowing more water through system worked fine for 4 months, then refused to relight Now out of warranty !!! Got boiler engineer to relight it, he couldn't find the problem Ran for about 6 weeks & went out again ! Gave up in disgust & have not had it working since 26/04/07 Called in new independent pool engineer who dismantled it & say's gas valve unit is faulty ! Am awaiting the estimate to replace that Emailed poolstore, no reply Had new gas valve fitted, C. £250.00 in total ! Worked fine for 6 days !!!!!!!!!! Now had the pilot generator replaced as well What a piece of junk ! Currently working again, watch this space
